Kefyalew Obese, fourth-generation coffee farmer from Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia

About the Producer

Kefyalew Obese is a fourth-generation coffee farmer from Yirgacheffe, Ethiopia. He inherited his family’s six-hectare farm in 2008 and continues to build on a legacy of excellence alongside his child, Melesse. Together, they focus on selective handpicking of ripe Wolisho varietal cherries and experiment with processing methods that bring out the best in their coffee. The family’s dedication to innovation and quality control has made their micro-lot coffees stand out on the global stage.

Process & Terroir

This lot is crafted using a natural anaerobic fermentation on raised beds at an elevation of 1,944 meters. This meticulous process enhances the fruit-forward complexity Yirgacheffe is famous for, producing a cup with remarkable clarity, sweetness, and depth. Expect notes of blueberry, cranberry, and melon that showcase both the unique terroir and the Obese family’s skill.

Brewing Recommendations

Our preferred brew method for this coffee is pour-over, which highlights its layered fruit character and sparkling clarity. For best results, use a 1:16 coffee-to-water ratio and a medium-fine grind. This lot also performs beautifully in an AeroPress for a slightly bolder, fruit-forward cup.
